Refuge Denied (1987) marks the powerful debut of Seattle Thrash Metal band Sanctuary. Discovered early by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, the band went on to record two albums for Epic before disbanding, with Warrel Dane and Jim Sheppard later forming Prog Metal favourites Nevermore. Mustaine produced the album, shaping its sharp, driving sound built on the twin‑guitar attack of Lenny Rutledge and Sean Blosl, Warrel Dane’s soaring and aggressive vocals, and Jim Sheppard’s commanding bass lines. The record also includes a standout cover of Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit”, featuring Dave Mustaine.
