Originally released in 1994, Volume 1 is the sole studio album from Thug Life, the hip-hop collective founded by Tupac Shakur. This 2019 reissue, pressed on 180g vinyl to mark the album’s 25th anniversary, restores the raw G-Funk and gangsta rap sound that defined West Coast hip-hop in the mid-’90s. The album was re-recorded multiple times due to label concerns over lyrical content, resulting in a lean but potent 10-track set featuring Nate Dogg, Y.N.V., and production from Johnny J and Easy Mo Bee.
